I gave this story five stars because it has themes that are top needs among today's young people. In a world becoming more unfeeling and self-focused by the day, this first book in the Megan series focuses on caring for something outside ourselves, never giving up, and acceptance and curiosity instead of criticism and distancing from those who are different from us. Although there are grammar issues, such as inconsistent tenses, I truly enjoyed the unfolding of the plot line. Lastly, having taught special education as my career, I want to promote stories with disabled main characters, as this is SO rare. It also has a cool, unexpected plot twist that shows how one factor in a young person's life can really hold them back, and how helping them through this is key to a hopeful future. Very refreshing...
